Newborn Declan and his sentimental nursery!

Newborn

This blog post will be all about Declan, his sentimental nursery, and his sweet parents, but I need to take a moment and tell you all how happy this session made me.  Since November I have been working hard fine-tuning exactly what I want to shoot and who my ideal client is. Knowing your ideal client helps you really focus on attracting precisely who and what you want to shoot.  After a lot of soul-searching and “homework”, I finally had the words to describe my ideal client:  joyful, genuine, sentimental. I have been focusing my energy on attracting these exact types of people and it is coming back to me tenfold. The universe is an amazing thing.  You truly get back what you put out.    I can’t wait to share Declan’s nursery story with you…..

This sweet little babe, Declan, was 14 days new when I had the opportunity to meet him last week.  Upon my arrival, to my surprise, his mom opened the door and I immediately recognized her from my glory days as Olga…  or 9th grade Spanish class.  (You can describe it how you wish, but I think my version is the most fun!  We all got to pick our names and for 4 years, mine was Olga.) I recognized her immediately because all these years later, she still looks the same! Even after just having a baby!   Declan was adorable and slept like a champ the entire session.

After portraits, we headed to the sentimental nursey and mom and dad pointed out all the amazing details.  First was nana’s chair.  They had it reupholstered and were surprised with a pillow featuring some of the original fabric that matched the theme of the room.  Every once in a while “orbs” appear in photos.  I am sure there is a scientific explanation for all this, but in m decade plus of experience I can tell you that 95% of the time they appear when there is a story to go with them.  These orbs appeared ONLY in the photos of nana’s chair.  Coincidence?  Perhaps.  But I will choose to believe she had something to do with it!

Next, Declan’s kind dad explained to me the significance of the mural he painted on the wall.  Every layer of mountains was an exact replica of a photo they took on their adventures together.  Dad painted every tree and included a bonus tree that is his family crest.  That specific tree was the only one lit by the crack of the curtains.  At first, I tried to change it but quickly realized that little ray of sunshine added it’s own value and meaning to the story.

We ended the session with a few images on a blanket made by Declan’s momma’s cousin.  I will never be able to put into words how much I love when people share these intimate details of their life with me. I appreciate being let into their worlds, even if only for an afternoon, to hear the beautiful stories and meanings behind the things in their life, like a sentimental nursery.

Declan,

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the sky above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.
