In the summer of 2016 the Ross family contacted to me to do photos of their extended family during their LBI vacation! I love working with extended families and getting the opportunity to document so many generations together.  So many families come to LBI year after year and it’s beautiful to document each year of their story and see how much things have changed and how many things have stayed exactly the same.

This particular family was so fun to work with.  The children varied in ages and had such great personalities! The parents were active, helpful and involved which always puts the children at ease and makes them easier to photograph.  The families chose outfits that coordinated but weren’t over “matchy” and that makes for a happy photographer!  They allowed time during the session for the children to relax and have fun resulting in some beautiful candid photos. They ended their night with some sparklers for the children and they loved it!

Here are 5 tips on what to wear for beach photos from a New Jersey Family Photographer!

1. Compliment your surroundings,  Shades of blues and greens are always a good idea.
2.  I recommend choosing a shirt with a pattern you like and pulling colors from there to dress everyone else.
3. If children are coming to the session bring a change of clothes, towels and snacks to bribe with!  Someone always gets wet!
4. Soft, natural fabrics in cotton and linen that drape and flow make for beautiful portraits.
5. Don’t be afraid of a pop of color to contrast.  Beach photos don’t have to be all neutrals!
